Award Books: Boston Globe-Horn Book

"First presented in 1967 and customarily announced in June, the Boston Globe–Horn Book Awards are among the most prestigious honors in the field of children’s and young adult literature. Winners are selected in three categories: Picture Book, Fiction and Poetry, and Nonfiction." -- Boston-Globe Horn Book Awards


The Columbus Center IRC Boston-Globe Horn Book collection includes award and honor books from 2007 through 2010. These books have a call number beginning with COL Hornbook plus the year.

The note field for each book details the honor it recieved, Old Bear, by Kevin Henkes, is an honor book. Part of the IRC circulating collection, juvenile award books circulate for a period of three weeks with four renewals.

Award Books: Coretta Scott King Awards

"Given to African American authors and illustrator for outstanding inspirational and educational contributions, the Coretta Scott King Book Award titles promote understanding and appreciation of the culture of all peoples and their contribution to the realization of the American dream of a pluralistic society". - CSK Author & Illustrator Awards.

The Columbus Center IRC Corretta Scott King Author & Illustrator Award collection features the winning illustrator title and select honor books from 1986 through 2010. A small number of author books are also included within the collection, the catalog record notes field indicates what award was earned by each title.
These books have a call number beginning with Col King plus the year. For example, the 2009 Coretta Scott King illustrator award winning book is The Blacker the Berry: Poems, illustrated by Floyd Cooper. It's call number is COL King 2009. Award Books: Newbery Medal

Its terms, as well as its long history, continue to make it the best known and most discussed children's book award in this country." -- ALSC Newbery Medal
