IRC Spotlight: Collection in Process

Titles added to the Columbus IRC reference collection were featured last week - IRC Reference Collection & IRC Reference Collection - and the next group of reference books have arrived. Note the spine label on each book includes the COL Ref prefix and each call number is yellow; the covering will be placed on every cataloged item in the collection and facilitate quick distinction between IRC Columbus and IRC main campus collections.

These three carts are loaded with new arrivals for the IRC collection. Included are reference, materials kits, big book stands, big books, and juvenile award titles that will be placed on reserve. Big books will be placed in large hanging bags perfect for protection and access. Materials kits will be either housed in their original containers or, as with puppet sets pictured below, placed in clear containers.

Additional materials kits reside on counter space in technical services; these kits vary in size, form, and function as they have been selected to support various curriculum areas of language arts, science, and math (check out the Judi clock set on the bottom left side of the counter).

These pictures represent the first step all newly acquired items take after arriving in the library. Each will be cataloged and processed in technical services prior to being shelf ready for the collection. When the Columbus Center IRC opens, shelf ready items will continue to be posted on this blog with catalog links prior to their arrival and subsequent shelving in the IRC.
